The year 2001 was marked by a mild, rainy spring.
This led to an early growing cycle, which began at Brancaia as early as mid-March. On the night of April 14th, temperatures suddenly dropped below freezing: in more exposed areas, some of the young buds froze, causing a great deal of concern. Fortunately, the vines affected by the frost initiated a new bud break Although these buds were less productive, a moderate thinning of the grapes allowed the average yield to be kept around 5,500 kg\/ha. The heavy rainfall in the spring helped form adequate water reserves in the soil. This allowed the plants to withstand the particularly hot and dry summer without major issues. At the end of August, hot days were followed by cool nights. This, combined with light rainfall, created the ideal conditions for sugar-rich and aromatic grapes. The harvest began on September 7th at Brancaia with the Merlot and was completed with the Sangiovese on October 4th at Poppi.<\/p>\n
The 2001 wines are full-bodied, with complex aromas, good structure and high dry extract. The 2001 vintage is very promising in terms of quality.<\/p>\n
